In August 2011 I began my internship at Communication Centre. I am a third-year Leisure Management student and my name is Bartjan Goverde. Recently, I moved to Breda.
Within Communication Centre I am responsible for organising the Open Days, Orientation Days as well as the Real-life pilot studies. During the last weeks the whole team of Communication Centre worked hard to design an Open Day that provides information about the different study programmes offered by Academy for Leisure and that creates a lasting experience for visitors.
It was m
y task to organise this event from A – Z. It started with gathering the interests and needs of all parties involved. Afterwards, I recruited a team consisting of students and lecturers that could help with arranging all the facilities and the overall setting of the event. Keeping track of all materials needed during the execution was also an essential part of the preparation which I was responsible for as well. After everything was fixed and set up, the Open Day finally took place last Saturday.
Since, we began with a complete new team at Communication Centre in September of this year this assignment was very challenging and thrilling for all of us. Therefore, I felt pretty released after I gave the last instructions to everybody helping at this event and everything was up and running even if there have been some problems in the beginning.
My placement so far is a great challenge especially because I have so much responsibility. This is probably due to the fact that Communication Centre is a student company within Academy for Leisure which means that I am allowed to make mistakes and learn a lot from them. At a well-established company within the leisure industry interns often have smaller tasks and a more limited level of responsibility.
From now on I am going to be busy with the organisation of nine Orientation Days. Again I have a lot of freedom with this assignment in the context of develo
ping the programme. If you are a first or second year student at Academy for Leisure and if you are interested in accompanying a group of pupils during one of the Orientation Days, feel free to come to our office on the second floor! (A2.003)
Who knows, maybe we will meet some day at Academy for Leisure!
See you,
Bartjan
